In Module 1, we'll be covering the essentials you need to master for editing, such as what format you should be editing in, what device to use and much more. In this module we'll also be focusing on layers and masking, which is the strength of Photoshop and allows so much creative freedom and power to make easy targeted adjustments. I'll also be teaching you my tips and tricks, which even if you already use layers and masks, you might not be aware of!
Module 2: Theory and Practice to Create a Perfect Canvas
Module 2 is an action-packed module with some theory and lots of practical lessons. I'll be sharing my approach and thought process behind my editing and my secrets to creating a perfect canvas to work on. This module is focused on correction of any problems with the image and then using various techniques to maximise its artistic potential.
Module 3: Learning Photoshop Techniques to Create an Outstanding Image
In Module 3, I'll be showing you my step-by-step core editing process in Photoshop which I use on every image I edit. We'll be working on one image from start to finish. You will have the same Raw file to download to edit with me (as well as others).
This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced photographers who want to learn my style. I'll not only be showing you how to use the tools, but also discussing why we want to make those changes and the thought process behind them. This means you will then be able to adapt all these techniques to any image you edit and then develop your own approaches as well!
Module 4: 1-2-1 Mentoring
This module is over to you! I want to make sure you have mastered all of the techniques we have covered. So you edit an image and send it to me, together with any questions you have and I will review these and provide you with my personal feedback, an answer to your questions and recommendations of how you can develop even further in future!
Bonus Module 5: Introduction to Fine Art Editing, Actions and Overlays
As a bonus module to this course, I will give you an introduction to fine art editing, which is my passion! In this module I'll be showing you how you can add all sorts of additional artistic effects to your image. I'll be showing how I get a painterly style in my images. Hi! I'm Ruth Chornolutskyy "RR Photographic" on social media.
I love fine art fairytale portraiture and editing is a huge element in my work. Whilst I aim to get the best result in camera, that is only 50% of my process. I adore creative editing and 50% of my work is developing my image further in post-production to add fairytale and fantasy to my images! I have used Photoshop for many years and love the creative freedom it gives me! In this course I will be teaching you all the core techniques I used in every one of the images below.
Some FAQs about the Course:
I don't do fine art/fairytale photography so will this editing course be any good for me?
The techniques I teach in this course will work on any type of portraiture. My passion is fine art/fairytale portraiture, which is why it's the type of images I mainly edit and show in my portfolio, but my core editing process will work on any type of portraiture.
I'm a complete beginner in Photoshop so will I be able to cope with this course?
Absolutely! This course will work for photographers of any level. If you're a total beginner to Photoshop or photo editing, then it may take you a bit longer and a bit more practice to work through the course (but there's no time limit on the course and you have permanent access, so you can go at your own pace and go back to lessons whenever you need to). If you're an experienced editor already, you may be able to skip through a couple of the early lessons in Module 1 and then get into the deeper content to learn my style and techniques.
I don't shoot with the camera, settings or lighting you do, so will the editing techniques still work?
Yes! I do, from time to time, retouch other peoples' images and I use exactly the same core editing process in every image I edit regardless of what camera it was shot on (I've edited phone images too), what camera settings were used and what lighting was used (if any).
What if there's something I can't get the hang of and I need help?
I explain everything very clearly in the course, but if you're really struggling with anything, just drop me a message on social media @rrphotographic. You should also submit a list of any questions you have together with your edited image for Module 4 and I'll make sure I answer those when I give the 1-2-1 mentoring support.
There's free stuff on YouTube, why pay for a course?
Yes there are plenty of free resources online and places like YouTube are a valuable resource, but speaking from my own experience and from what other photographers have told me, it can be very overwhelming watching hours and hours of YouTube tutorials from different people with different styles and trying to piece them together into an effective workflow. The issue is, you end up having to work out a way to piece together part of one person's workflow with another part of someone else's workflow and that is hard and often doesn't work too well! Another big issue I had when I was learning, is I was so hungry to learn, but I literally didn't know what I didn't know and so I didn't know what to search for on YouTube! I found that very frustrating and after years of trying to learn for free, I just wasn't getting the results I wanted. Instead I started investing in tutorials from photographers whose work I admired and that, for me, was the turning point. Once you've learnt someone's workflow in a logical and clearly structured order, it's easy to then adapt it for yourself, experiment and make it your own, which is what I would encourage you to do!
Why is this course more expensive than some other Photoshop tutorials?
This is not just a quick tutorial where you learn how to edit just one image from start to finish and perhaps use a colour grading action that has been provided. I will be teaching you my full core editing process as well as my approach and thought process behind my editing. This means you will be able to apply the manual techniques you learn to any image and develop the techniques further (if you wish).
